Volleyball Earns 3-1 Non-Conference Home Win Against Stevens

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (26-10, 4-3 NJAC) picked up a 3-1 home win against the Stevens Institute of Technology (16-9, 5-1 MAC Freedom) Oct. 30 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers trailed by five (21-16) late in the first set before three straight kills made it a two-point game. The two sides traded points until Stevens closed out the set to grab the 25-21 win.
  • WP owned a slim one-point advantage (19-18) in the second set when a kill by freshman Riley Elliott (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) sparked a 5-1 run that pushed the lead to five (24-19). Despite two straight points by the Ducks, a kill by Elliott sealed the 25-21 victory for the Pioneers.
  • An 18-7 run to open the third set gave WP a double-digit advantage. Stevens outscored the Pioneers, 12-6, but WP held on for the 25-19 win.
  • The score was even at 12-12 in the fourth set when the Pioneers went on a 13-5 run to capture the 25-17 victory.
