Miller Notches Career Milestone During Volleyball’s 3-0 Win Over Ramapo

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) recorded her 1,000th career kill to help the William Paterson volleyball team (15-10, 4-3 NJAC) claim a 3-0 win against Ramapo (15-8, 3-4 NJAC) Oct. 28 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game at the Sports and Recreation Center.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers owned a five-point advantage (14-9) in the opening set before outscoring the Roadrunners, 11-1, the rest of the way to secure the 25-10 victory.
  • WP trailed by one (8-7) early in the second set until a kill by freshman Riley Elliott (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) sparked a 12-4 run that gave the Pioneers a seven-point lead (19-12). Despite three consecutive points by Ramapo, WP responded with a 6-1 run to capture the 25-16 win.
  • The Pioneers led by eight (18-10) in the third set before Ramapo pulled to within six (19-13). However, WP closed out the set on a 6-0 run to earn the 25-13 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller became just the sixth Pioneer in program history to reach 1,000 career kills.
  • She led the Pioneers with a match-best 14 kills.
  • Junior Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) finished with 12 kills.
  • Elliott logged nine kills, six digs and four aces.
  • Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) totaled a team-high 16 assists.
  • Junior Taylor Grady (Hillsdale, N.J./Pasack Valley) had 14 assists and seven digs.
  • Sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) notched a match-high 21 digs.
  • WP clinched a berth in the NJAC Tournament,
  • The Pioneers extended their conference win streak to three.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will host Stevens on Thursday, Oct. 30, for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
