Volleyball Earns 3-2 Win Over Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J.  – The William Paterson volleyball team (12-9, 2-3 NJAC) earned a 3-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win on the road over Rutgers-Camden (9-14, 0-6 NJAC) Oct. 21.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tied at 13-13, Rutgers-Camden surged ahead and later closed out the first set on a 7-2 run to secure the 25-18 win.
  • Strong serving and steady defense in the second set fueled the Pioneers to a decisive 25-12 victory.
  • In a back-and-forth third set, WP held strong in the closing points and junior Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) sealed it with the final kill to lift the Pioneers to a 25-23 win.
  • The Pioneers stayed within a point most of the way, but Rutgers–Camden held on to take the fourth set, 25–23.
  • After evening the score at 8-8, William Paterson pulled ahead, finishing on a 7-2 run to win the fifth set, 15-10.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Glenn posted a team-high 13 kills, while junior Laura Gruener (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) contributed 11 kills.
  • Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) finished with 12 kills and seven digs.
  • Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) distributed 50 assists, adding 10 digs and four aces.
  • Sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) posted 19 digs.
