Football Falls in NJAC Tilt at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (2-4, 1-2 NJAC) dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game, 45-16, at Rowan (4-1, 2-1 NJAC) Oct. 18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson received the ball to begin the game and drove 57 yards on 11 plays before senior kicker Matt Davidson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) connected on a 25-yard field goal to put the Pioneers ahead, 3-0.
  • After forcing the Profs to punt, the Pioneers got the ball back at their own seven-yard line with 6:01 on the clock in the first quarter. However, Rowan forced a safety to trim the deficit to one (3-2).
  • The Profs found the end zone three times in the second quarter, putting up 19 unanswered points to take an 18-point lead (21-3) into the half.
  • Rowan carried its momentum into the third quarter, scoring on its first drive of the second half to push the lead to 25 (28-3) with 12:08 on the clock.
  • WP responded on its ensuing possession after sophomore quarterback Nigel Jennings (Garfield, N.J./Eastside) found senior Duke McDuffie (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Saint Joseph Metuchen) for a 20-yard score to cap a 75-yard drive.
  • Rowan countered by scoring a touchdown on the following drive to make it 35-10.
  • The Pioneers regained possession at their own 22-yard line and drove 49 yards down the field before Jennings ran 29 yards into the end zone to trim the deficit to 19 (35-16) with 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Profs scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth frame to earn the 45-16 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Jennings completed 11-of-20 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown, while adding 72 rushing yards and a score on 15 carries.
  • McDuffie reeled in four catches for a career-high 89 yards and his first career touchdown.
  • Sophomore Ray'Mir Johnson (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) rushed 14 times for a career-best 71 yards.
  • Junior Kymani Maitland (East Orange, N.J./East Orange Campus) recorded a career-high nine tackles.
  • Senior James Nevels (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) made three stops and logged an interception.
