Volleyball Upended at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (11-9, 1-3 NJAC) was upended by host Stockton (11-6, 3-2 NJAC), 3-0, Oct. 14.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Ospreys built an 11-3 lead to start the first set, and came away with a 25-17 opening win.
  • The Pioneers used a 4-1 burst to seize a 7-6 advantage early in the second set, and neither team led by more than two until four straight points by Stockton made it a 16-11 margin, on its way to a 25-16 decision.
  • The Ospreys scored nine of the first 11 points of the third, finishing the match with a 25-14 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) led WP with nine kills, while freshman outside hitter Riley Elliott (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) put away five kills.
  • Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) collected eight digs, and junior setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) posted 13 assists.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will enjoy a week off, returning to action Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Rutgers-Camden at 7:00 p.m.
