Volleyball Falls 3-1 to Illinois College

WAYNE, N.J.  – The William Paterson volleyball team (11-8, 1-2 NJAC) fell 3-1 to Illinois College (6-12, 1-0 MIDWEST) in a non-conference matchup Oct. 10 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • William Paterson built an early 8-2 lead, but Illinois rallied back to tie it at 18-18 and finished on a 7-5 run to take the opening set, 25-23.
  • The Pioneers held a 21-17 advantage after a strong serving stretch from sophomore Jillian Hitt (Lakewood, Calif./Mayfair) before the Lady Blues closed on a 9-3 surge to claim the second set, 26-24.
  • After trailing 9-3, the Pioneers surged ahead behind a key serving run from sophomore Dilara Pak (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) to claim a decisive 25-17 win in the third set.
  • In a back-and-forth fourth set, Illinois pulled away late to capture a 25-21 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) led the Pioneers with 19 kills, 10 digs and four aces.
  • Junior Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) recorded 11 kills.
  • Sophomore Bella Demers (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) logged 17 digs.
  • Junior Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished the match with 35 assists and seven digs.
