Women’s Basketball Rolls to 61-39 NJAC Home Win Over Kean

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (9-4, 5-1 NJAC) won its fifth consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game after defeating Kean (5-8, 2-4 NJAC), 61-39, Jan. 8 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson trailed by four (26-22) with 3:10 on the clock in the second quarter before a 3-pointer by junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) sparked an 11-0 run to close out the frame.
  • The Pioneers extended their lead to 20 (50-30) after outscoring the Cougars, 17-4, in the third quarter while limiting Kean to just two made shots on 12 attempts.
  • WP maintained its double-digit advantage and went on to secure the 61-39 home victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) scored 14 points while recording five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
  • Wells logged a 14-point performance with three boards, three steals and a pair of assists.
  • Junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
  • Senior Victoria Palladino (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) and junior Jasmine Sullivan (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) tallied seven points apiece.
  • Palladino added five boards, four steals and two assists to her stat line.

  • William Paterson will take on New Jersey City Saturday, Jan. 11, in a 1:00 p.m. NJAC road game.
