Women's Basketball Secures 60-49 NJAC Win at New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (10-4, 6-1 NJAC) earned a 60-49 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win at New Jersey City (3-10, 2-5 NJAC) Jan. 11.   
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers held a slim 34-32 advantage with 2:28 on the clock in the third quarter before going on a 21-5 run that spanned 7:51 on game action. During that stretch, WP shot 9-of-14 (.643) from the floor with junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) leading the charge with 15 points.
  • New Jersey City responded with nine unanswered points and trimmed the deficit to single digits (55-46) with 1:03 remaining in the game. However, The Pioneers iced the game at the foul line to secure the conference road victory.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Wells finished with a double-double after tying her career-best scoring output of 22 points to pair with 10 boards.
  • She added a career-high five steals to go with three assists on the day.
  • Sophomore Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) had nine points and four steals while logging a career-best 10 rebounds and five assists.
  • Junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) reeled in a career-high 15 boards to go with eight points.
  • William Paterson outrebounded New Jersey City, 56-34.
  • It's the most rebounds in a game by WP since corralling 58 during a 54-50 home win against Ramapo on Jan. 11, 2023.
  • The Pioneers are off to their best start in NJAC action since the 2021-22 team began conference play with a 6-1 mark.
