Women's Basketball Wins Non-Conference Finale Over Western Connecticut, 80-60

WAYNE, N.J. – Six Pioneers scored in double figures as the William Paterson women's basketball team (8-4, 4-1 NJAC) closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with an 80-60 win against Western Connecticut State (4-8, 2-1 Little East) Jan. 4 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson used a 12-5 run to close out the final 4:29 of the second quarter to build a double-digit lead (43-33) heading into the break.
  • The Wolves got back into the game after opening the third quarter on a 13-1 run to grab a 46-44 edge with 3:32 on the clock.
  • Two consecutive steals and scores by sophomore Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) put the Pioneers back on top (48-46) and sparked a 13-3 run to extend the WP lead to eight (57-49) before the quarter came to a close.
  • The Pioneers kept their foot on the gas and outscored the Wolves, 23-11, in the final frame to claim the 80-60 home victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) finished with 13 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for her first double-double this season.
  • The Leonardo, N.J., native added three assists and four steals to her stat line.
  • Senior Victoria Palladino (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) had a season-high 12 points on 4-of-6 (.667) shooting with four steals.
  • Senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) logged a 12-point outing with three assists and a pair of steals.
  • Jacobs went 5-for-5 (1.000) from the field to tie her career-best scoring mark of 12 points while finishing with a career-high seven steals.
  • Junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) totaled 11 points and six rebounds.
  • Senior Jade Martinez (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) notched 11 points, four rebounds and a season-best four assists.
  • The Pioneers had 20 steals and forced 32 turnovers.
  • WP scored 36 points off the Wolves' turnovers.
