Women's Basketball Topped at TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (12-5, 8-2 NJAC) dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game to The College of New Jersey (12-5, 8-2 NJAC) Jan. 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) pacing the Pioneers offensively with 12 of their 14 points in the third quarter, WP pulled within seven (48-41) of the Lions heading into the final frame.
  • TCNJ opened the fourth quarter by knocking down five of their first seven shot attempts to go on a 14-3 run and extend its advantage to 18 (62-44) with 5:01 on the clock.
  • Despite countering with a 9-3 run, WP could not come from behind and ultimately fell on the road, 69-54.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Smith scored a season-high 30 points.
  • It's the third time in her career that she reached the 30-point mark in a game.
  • Junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) had nine points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
  • Junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) corralled a game-high nine boards to go with four points and a steal.
