Volleyball Claims 3-1 Victory Over Manhattanville in Home Opener

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (1-3) opened its 2024 home slate with a 3-1 victory over Manhattanville (2-2) Sept. 5 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers held a slim 10-8 edge in the first set before outscoring the Valiants 11-5 to go ahead by eight (21-13). Manhattanville pulled within six (23-17), but William Paterson closed out the set with back-to-back kills from graduate student Hope Arce-Reed (New Carrollton, Md./College Park Academy).
  • A 17-5 run in the second set gave WP a 24-11 lead. Manhattanville scored two consecutive points, but an attacking error gave the 25-13 win to the Pioneers.
  • The two sides were even at 12-12 in the third set when Manhattanville went on a 12-3 run before going on to secure the 25-17 win.
  • WP got off to a hot start in the fourth set and grabbed a 19-6 lead. The Valiants trimmed the deficit to eight (22-14), but three straight WP points gave the Pioneers the 25-14 set victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Arce-Reed paced the Pioneers with a 15-kill performance.
  • Sophomore Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) posted a double-double after finishing with 12 kills and 10 digs.
  • Sophomore Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) had nine kills and seven block assists.
  • Senior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) logged a team-high 19 digs with seven service aces.
  • Sophomore Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) dished out 32 assists to pair with six digs.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers will play host to Hunter at 11:00 a.m. and Regis at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
