Volleyball Triumphs in Wins Over Arcadia and Vassar

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's volleyball team (7-5) secured a 3-1 victory over Arcadia (4-7) in its first match of the day before sweeping Vassar (5-3) later in the afternoon Sept. 21 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arcadia started strong with a 7–0 lead and maintained its advantage, despite a late rally, en route to securing a 25–20 win in the opening set.
  • The Pioneers led 24-21, but the Knights turned the tide with three unanswered points to even the score. However, back-to-back kills from sophomore Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) and classmate Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) eventually gave the Pioneers the 28-26 win.
  • In set three, the score was tied at 12-12 before the Pioneers went on an 8-1 run. The Knights responded with a 7-2 run to pull within two (22-20), but WP held on to secure the 25-21 set victory.
  • In the final set, the Pioneers took control early and maintained their momentum, emerging victorious over Arcadia with a 25–13 set win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller led the Pioneers with a career-best 23 kills to go with 17 digs.
  • Glenn totaled 12 kills.
  • Sophomore Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) had 42 assists and 10 digs.
  • Senior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) recorded 29 digs.
  • Freshman Dilara Pak (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) finished with 19 digs.

MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers grabbed a 13-4 advantage to open the first set and maintained their momentum for a 25-10 win.
  • Trailing 10-8 in the second set, WP scored eight unanswered points to go ahead by six (16-10). Vassar pulled within two (16-14) but the Pioneers closed out the set on a 9-4 run to secure a 25-18 victory.
  • WP overcame a six-point deficit (20-14) in the third set with an 11-1 run capped by a pair of kills from freshman Makayda Aldrich (Robbinsdale, Minn./Brooklyn Center) to seal a 25-21 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller had 11 kills, five service aces, and seven digs.
  • Houpt recorded 14 assists.
  • Aldrich tallied seven kills.
  • Molina registered 12 digs.
  • Sophomore Taylor Grady (Hillsdale, N.J./Pasack Valley) had 11 assists.
