WAYNE, N.J. – AJ Mott was named the new head strength and conditioning coach at William Paterson in September 2024.
"We are thrilled to welcome AJ Mott to William Paterson as our inaugural strength and conditioning coach," William Paterson's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Kristen Foley said. "He brings a wealth of experience and an engaging coaching style to our athletics and recreation family and will play a vital role in the training and development of all 13 intercollegiate programs. AJ is known for helping student-athletes reach their full potential in the weight room and we look forward to seeing his vision and leadership displayed in our new Stephen Adzima Strength and Conditioning Center opening this fall."
Mott, a native of Wayne, N.J., arrives at WP with nearly a decade of experience in the strength and conditioning field at the collegiate level. Â

"I look forward to working with all of the William Paterson student-athletes and playing a part in helping them achieve both team and personal goals on and off the playing field."
He returns to the collegiate ranks following a two-year stint at DePaul Catholic High School where he served as the assistant athletic director, dean of students, head wrestling coach and junior varsity baseball coach.
Prior to his time at DePaul Catholic, he spent one year as the head strength and conditioning coach at Lebanon Valley College from 2021-22.
Before Lebanon Valley, Mott was at Western Colorado University where he was the head strength and conditioning coach. He worked with the football, wrestling, women's basketball and cheerleading programs. His responsibilities included overseeing programming, weight room scheduling, and enhancing athlete movement patterns among others.

Mott has earned several professional certifications from a variety of respected health organizations, including USA Weightlifting Level One Coach, NSCA: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and CPR/AED.

He also gained experience as the head strength and conditioning coach at FDU-Florham from 2016 through the summer of 2020. He designed, implemented, and oversaw strength and conditioning programs for all 19 sports and performed day-to-day tasks for the Devils. While working in Madison, N.J., Mott also obtained his master's in sport administration.

In 2016, Mott worked as an Olympic strength and conditioning assistant at the University of North Carolina and spent that summer as a strength and conditioning football spotting intern at the University of South Carolina.

Mott graduated from Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2015 earning a bachelor's in health promotion with a concentration in kinesiology. He was a member of the wrestling team and was named an NAIA Daktronics Academic All-American. He additionally earned the Champion of Character Award, as well as the Kinesiology and Health Promotion Outstanding Senior Academic Achievement as a senior.
