Pioneers Honor 72 Individuals at Senior Intercollegiate Athletics and Club Sports Awards Reception

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation honored the accomplishments of its 72 individuals at its annual Senior Intercollegiate Athletics and Club Sports Awards Reception April 15 in the University Commons Ballrooms.

WP acknowledged 56 senior intercollegiate student-athletes, 15 club sports seniors, and one senior who participated as both an intercollegiate and club athlete.

In addition to celebrating each of the seniors, the Pioneers bestowed several individual awards during the event. 

Women’s basketball senior Renee Wells was named the recipient of the Roland Watts Award, given to a student-athlete who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and effort in his or her sport. A member of the 2025-26 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Honorable Mention, Wells also was the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year and a first-team D3hoops.com all-Region IV, all-ECAC, all-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association and all-NJAC honoree as a senior after averaging 17.6 points per outing with 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals per contest. Earlier in her career she was named the 2022-23 NJAC Rookie of the Year and was selected to the 2023-24 and 2024-25 All-NJAC Honorable Mentions. She finished her career with 1,526 points (seventh at WP), .805 free-throw percentage (first), 1,404 field goals attempted (third), 451 three-pointers attempted (sixth), 522 field goals made (seventh), 135 three-pointers made (seventh), 347 free throws made (seventh), 14.0 points per game (ninth), 431 free throws attempted (tied-ninth), 595 rebounds, 246 assists, and 181 steals in 109 games played, 108 starts (tied-first) and 3,225 minutes played (seventh). A five-time Dean’s List student, Wells was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society, earned a spot on the 2024-25 and 2025-26 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Teams, and was named to the 2023-24 and 2024-25 Academic All-NJAC Honorable Mentions. She is double majoring in history and secondary education at William Paterson.

Renee Wells was presented with the Roland Watts Award by Audrey Bonaparte-Watts and Jackie Watts.

Volleyball student-athlete Kristian Glenn received the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, given to the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. A member of the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region IV Honorable Mention and All-NJAC Honorable Mention, Glenn posted 235 kills (2.24 kills/set) with a .301 hitting percentage and 49 total blocks this past season. During her three years at WP, she recorded 660 kills (2.15 per set), a .284 hitting percentage (eighth at WP), 151 block assists (second) and 172 total blocks (eighth). A Chi Alpha Sigma inductee and Honors College student, she earned a spot on the 2024 and 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Teams, was a five-time Dean’s List student, and was named to the 2024-25 Academic All-NJAC Honorable Mention. She will graduate Summa Cum Laude next month with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

Kristian Glenn was presented the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award by President Dr. Richard Helldobler.

Chris Cugliari of the bowling team was the club sports' recipient of the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. Cugliari is a seven-time Dean's List student, a Chi Alpha Sigma inductee, and an Honors College student. Also a one-year member of the WP golf team, he will graduate Summa Cum Laude this May, finishing his bachelor's in communication with a concentration in media production.

The William Paterson men’s soccer program was named the winner of the Pioneer Spirit Award, given to the student-athlete(s) who exhibited unparalleled pride and enthusiasm for the Orange and Black. The first WP team to win this award, they participated in nearly 50 events, often with a majority of team members present. In addition to cheering on their fellow Pioneer student-athletes from the stands at numerous home contests, they also participated in a wide range of campus activities, including the Organization of Latin Americas student event, Homecoming Pep Rally, Read Across America, Mental Health Walk, Veteran’s Day flag planting, and the jobs, internship and career fairs offered by the Career Development Center. On the pitch, they reached the 2025 NJAC Tournament quarterfinals and ECAC Tournament semifinals, recording draws against two nationally-ranked opponents along the way. In the classroom, they achieved a team GPA of 3.313 this past fall semester.

The Men's Soccer Team was presented the Pioneer Spirit Award by Vice President of Student Development Dr. Miki Cammarata and Pio.

In addition, 48 WP seniors were acknowledged as recipients of the Academic Excellence Award for maintaining an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.000 or better.

Vice President for Student Development Miki Cammarata, who is retiring at the end of the academic year, was also thanked for her continued support of WP athletics and Pioneer student-athletes.
