Baseball Drops NJAC Game to New Jersey City

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (9-26, 4-11 NJAC) fell, 7-3, to New Jersey City (14-20, 7-8 NJAC) April 25 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game at Jeff Albies Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • NJCU loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs and plated two runs to grab a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Gothic Knights tacked on an insurance run in the second to push the lead to three (3-0).
  • William Paterson opened the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles from juniors Christian Hay (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) and Tom Radigan (Verona, N.J./Verona) before senior Jake Lutz (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) drove in a run on an RBI single through the left side. Another run crossed once freshman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) grounded out to the left side of the infield to make it a one-run game (3-2).
  • The Gothic Knights plated their fourth run of the game in the seventh, but the Pioneers responded in the eighth with a run of their own once Lutz hit a sacrifice fly following a Radigan triple to pull WP within one run (4-3).
  • NJCU put the game away in the ninth by scoring three runs before securing the 7-3 road conference win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Radigan batted 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.
  • Junior Giovanni Aresta (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Lutz drove in two of the Pioneers' three runs.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will wrap up its two-game series with NJCU Friday, April 26, in Jersey City, N.J., at 3:30 p.m.
