Baseball Captures 6-4 Road Win at New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (10-26, 5-11 NJAC) plated two runs in the ninth inning to capture a 6-4 road win at New Jersey City (14-21, 7-9 NJAC) April 26 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers broke through first in the third inning when senior Jake Lutz (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) launched a ball over the fence in left for a two-run home run to put WP ahead, 2-0.
  • In the fourth, sophomore Sean McAllister (Toms River, N.J./Manchester Twp.) singled through the left side and eventually came all the way around to score on two costly errors by the Gothic Knights on a failed pickoff attempt that pushed the Pioneers' advantage to three (3-0).
  • NJCU scored a run in fourth and took the lead in the fifth (4-3) following a three-run frame.
  • William Paterson evened the score at 4-4 in the eighth after a solo home run by junior Giovanni Aresta (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge).
  • The score remained tied heading into the ninth before freshman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) hit a leadoff double and scored on a two-run homer by junior RJ Mehnert (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) to make it a two-run game (6-4).
  • Junior Nick Durso (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills), who entered the game in the eighth inning, pitched a scoreless ninth frame to secure the 6-4 road win for WP.
