Baseball Defeated by St. Joseph's Long Island

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (7-22, 2-8 NJAC) fell 22-10 to St. Joseph's Long Island (20-7, 10-0 Skyline) April 16 in a non-conference game at Jeff Albies Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Golden Eagles logged five hits and drew four walks en route to scoring seven runs in the second inning to grab an early 7-0 advantage.
  • William Paterson got on the board in the bottom half of the frame with a run when sophomore Matthew DiGirolamo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) doubled with two runners on.
  • St. Joseph's went on to plate four runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the top of the fifth to extend their advantage to 15 (16-1).
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Pioneers had runners on first and second when freshman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) laced a single into left to drive in one before junior Giovanni Aresta (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the third WP run of the game.
  • The Golden Eagles tacked on four runs in the sixth to push the lead to 17 (20-3).
  • William Paterson loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth before a wild pitch allowed a run to cross. Two more runs came in to score on a sacrifice fly by DiGirolamo and an RBI single by classmate Sean McAllister (Toms River, N.J./Manchester Twp.).
  • In the seventh, an error and walk put two runners on for the Pioneers to set up junior Christian Hay (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) for an RBI double to right. Freshman Will Craten (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) drove in the second run of the inning on a fielder's choice to trim the deficit to 12 (20-8).
  • The Pioneers plated two runs in the eighth after sophomore Dylan Santos (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) belted a two-RBI double into right field with the bases loaded to make it a 10-run game (20-10).
  • The Golden Eagles added two runs in the ninth before securing the 22-10 victory.
