Baseball Cruises to 11-0 Win Against Ohio Northern

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The William Paterson baseball team (5-6) cruised to an 11-0 win over Ohio Northern (6-7) on the second day of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational March 17. The game was ended after seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the second after junior Austin Jack (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) drew a base on balls and stole second before scoring on an RBI base hit to right center by classmate Christian Hay (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional).
  • WP blew the game open in the third with a six-run frame. Senior Jake Lutz (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and junior Tom Radigan (Verona, N.J./Verona) belted a two-run home run over the fence in right field to make it a 3-0 game.
  • A pair of singles from freshman Ty Kobylakiewicz (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) and junior Connor Luckie (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton High West) put two runners on before Jack was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Junior Tyler Ruban (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) then cleared the bases with his first career grand slam to extend the WP lead to seven (7-0).
  • Ruban drove in a run in the fourth on a fielder's choice to push the advantage to eight (8-0) before the Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI base knock to center by Radigan.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Jack was on second base when Ruban ripped a double down the left field line to give the Pioneers their 11th run of the afternoon.
