Men's Basketball Drops Conference Tilt to Montclair State

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (3-4, 0-2 NJAC) fell  97-81 to Montclair State (4-2, 1-1 NJAC) Dec. 4 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers trailed by 24 (78-54) with 8:32 remaining in the game before a 3-pointer by senior David Martinez (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) sparked an 11-0 run.
  • William Paterson continued to chip into the double-digit deficit and pulled within nine (90-81) with 1:45 left to play following a 9-4 run.
  • That would be as close as the Pioneers would get as the Red Hawks iced the game at the foul line to claim the conference win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) logged 19 points, a game-high eight assists and a team-best seven rebounds.
  • Senior Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) posted a 12-point performance with six boards, five assists and career-high seven steals.
