BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (6-4, 4-1 NJAC) fell 87-59 to No. 8 Christopher Newport (11-1) Dec. 29 on the opening day of the Steel Club Classic hosted by Moravian University.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• William Paterson fell behind by double figures in the first quarter after the Captains went ahead 22-12.
• Christopher Newport maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way to secure the win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) logged a team-high 15 points to go with four rebounds.
• Senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) had nine points and a team-best four assists.
• Sophomore Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) totaled seven points and five rebounds.
• Junior Patty Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) reeled in a team-high seven boards.

• William Paterson will take on Saint Elizabeth Monday, Dec. 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the Steel Club Classic consolation round.
