Fourth-Quarter Surge Propels Women's Basketball to Win at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The William Paterson women's basketball team (6-3, 4-1 NJAC) outscored Rowan (6-3, 4-1 NJAC), 25-14, in the fourth quarter to earn a come-from-behind 65-55 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road win Dec. 14. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With 7:24 remaining in the third quarter, Rowan went on a 16-3 run to take a seven-point lead (41-34).
  • The Pioneers responded with six unanswered points during the final 1:31 of the frame to pull within one (41-40).
  • A 3-pointer by junior Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) with 6:09 left in the game sparked a 14-4 run that pushed the Pioneers ahead, 60-52. 
  • WP iced the game at the foul line to earn to 65-55 conference road win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Wells scored a game-high 21 points while knocking down five shots from beyond the arc.
  • Senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) logged 17 points, four rebounds and two steals.
  • Sophomore Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) had eight points and seven rebounds.
  • Senior Victoria Palladino (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) scored seven points and added six rebounds, four assists and two steals. 
  • Sophomore Jada Jacobs (Mount Laurel, N.J./Medford Tech) tallied a career-high nine boards and four assists.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will face off against Christopher Newport on the first day of the Moravian Tournament Sunday, Dec. 29, in Bethlehem, Pa., at 12:00 p.m.
