Second-Half Surge Propels Men's Basketball to 64-52 Home Win Over Maritime

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (3-2) erased a second-half deficit to capture a 64-52 home victory against Maritime (4-1) Nov. 23 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers trailed by nine (38-29) with 15:31 remaining in the second half following an 11-4 run by the Privateers to open the stanza.
  • William Paterson responded with a 26-3 run that spanned 10:31 of action with eight different Pioneers getting into the scoring column. During that stretch, the Pioneers shot 10-of-17 (.588) from the floor while limiting Maritime to just one made shot on 17 attempts.
  • The Privateers scored seven unanswered points to make it a seven-point game (55-48) with 2:53 on the clock, however, the Pioneers iced the game at the foul line to secure the 64-52 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) scored a team-high 22 points to go with seven rebounds.
  • Senior Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) logged 10 points and seven boards while adding a team-best four assists and three steals.
  • Senior Tim Gjonballa (Brooklyn, N.Y./Jackson Liberty) finished with eight points, three rebounds and three blocks.
  • Senior David Martinez (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) totaled seven points, eight boards and a pair of assists.
