Men's Basketball Bested by Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (2-2) dropped a road non-conference game to Cairn (1-2), 77-65, Nov. 20.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson owned a two-point lead (37-35) heading into the half. The Pioneers built their advantage to as high as eight (52-44) with 12:58 remaining in the game following a dunk by senior Tim Gjonballa (Brooklyn, N.Y./Jackson Liberty).
  • Cairn cut the deficit to one (55-54) with 7:39 on the clock and went on to outscore William Paterson, 22-10, the rest of the way to earn the 76-65 home win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) scored a team-high 21 points on 9-of-14 (.643) shooting with five assists and a career-high 13 rebounds.
  • Senior David Martinez (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) logged 14 points, four rebounds and four steals.
  • Gjonballa went 5-for-7 (.714) from the floor to pair with seven rebounds.
  • Freshman Delani Hyde (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) corralled a career-high 10 boards.

  • William Paterson will welcome Maritime to the Sports and Recreation Center Saturday, Nov. 23, for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
