Top-Seeded Volleyball Hosts Stockton in NJAC Tournament Championship Match

WAYNE, N.J. – The top-seeded William Paterson volleyball team (21-9, 7-1 NJAC) will host third-seeded Stockton (22-7, 6-2 NJAC) Saturday, Nov. 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament Championship match at the Sports and Recreation Center.

  • Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults; $5.00 for children and seniors.
  • Free tickets will be granted to all William Paterson students who attend the match with a valid WP ID courtesy of student development..

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The winner of the matchup between William Paterson and Stockton will receive an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
 
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are making their 20th appearance in the NJAC Tournament and are seeking their fourth tournament title (1982, 1983, 1991).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson made quick work of fifth-seeded Rowan in the semifinal round, sweeping the Profs to advance to the title match.
  • The Pioneers enter Saturday's match on a nine-game winning streak with a flawless 13-0 record at home this season.
  • Graduate student outside hitter Hope Arce-Reed (New Carrollton, Md./College Park Academy) was named to the All-NJAC First Team and had a match-high 13 kills in the win against Rowan. She currently leads the team with 352 kills.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) earned her second consecutive first-team all-conference selection and logged six kills and 10 digs opposite the Profs. Her 333 kills and 291 digs rank second on the team.
  • Sophomore setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) was named to the All-NJAC Second Team and has logged a team-high 910 assists with a 9.10 assists per set average. She handed out a match-best 27 assists during the victory against Rowan.
  • Senior libero Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) became the first NJAC women's volleyball student-athlete to be named the Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons since the 2015-16 campaigns. She has totaled 557 digs with a 5.30 digs per set average this year and finished with a match-high 19 digs versus the Profs.
  • Freshman Makayda Aldrich (Robbinsdale, Minn./Brooklyn Center) had eight kills on 12 attacks with six total blocks against Rowan.

SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
  • The Ospreys bested second-seeded Montclair State, 3-2, on the road in the semifinal round to make their second consecutive appearance in the title match.
  • Stockton went 21-7 during the regular season with a 6-2 mark in NJAC play.
  • Junior Kate Louer, who was a first-team all-conference honoree, ranked second on the team in kills (276) and digs (188) this season and led the Ospreys with 16 kills and 25 digs against the Red Hawks in the semifinals.
  • The two-time NJAC Player of the Year, Nicole Palmer, had 13 kills with six total blocks opposite Montclair State. She filled up the stat sheet all season with 293 kills to go with 183 digs, 128 assists and 53 service aces.

EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • William Paterson earned a 3-1 home victory over Stockton Oct. 15.
  • The Ospreys took the opening set before the Pioneers claimed the following three to secure the win.
  • Arce-Reed had a team-high 16 kills while Aldrich logged nine kills and six total blocks.
  • Houpt dished out 35 assists and Molina recorded a match-high 23 digs.
