Men’s Soccer Garners ECAC Tournament Bid, Faces Alvernia Saturday

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson has earned a bid to the 2024 Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Soccer Championship and will face Alvernia in the first round Saturday, Nov. 16, at 3:00 p.m. at Rutgers-Newark.

WHERE  
WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The winner of the WP/Alvernia match will take on the winner of the Rutgers-Newark/FDU-Florham contest Sunday, Nov. 17, in the semifinal round at 1:00 p.m. The semifinal winners will meet in the championship match Saturday, Nov, 23, at a time and site to be determined.
 
WP IN THE ECAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are making their 18th appearance in the ECAC Tournament (1972, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1991, 1995, 2002, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2024) and have secured the title four times (1974, 1977, 1984, 2008).
  • The ECAC Tournament was played in a regional format prior to 2016.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson owns a 9-7-3 overall record and played to a 3-6 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action, currently riding a two-match win streak.
  • Second-team all-NJAC senior forward Diego Navas (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) paces WP with 12 goals, eight assists and 32 points during 18 starts.
  • Freshman midfielder Davide Zamuner (Piverone, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Statale A. Gramsci) owns 15 points (6 g, 3 a) while starting 13 of 18 appearances, and junior forward Filippo Dapelo (Genoa, Italy/Liceo Linguistico Internazionale Grazie Daledda) has 14 points (11 g. 6 a) during 11 starts and 16 matches played.
  • Junior midfielder Matthew Escobar (Kearny, N.J./Kearny), a second-team all-conference honoree, has collected one goal and six assists during 17 starts.
  • Junior Luca Misko (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) has started 14 matches in goal, posting a 1.64 goals-against average, .697 save percentage, 53 saves and two shutouts.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN WOLVES
  • Alvernia is 10-8-3 overall and 4-3 in the MAC Commonwealth, falling in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
  • The Red Wolves are led offensively by senior forward Ryan Cogill with 34 points (16 g, 2 a).
  • Graduate student forward Dominic Flowers has 17 points (5 g, 7 a), while junior forward Connor Kraycik has tallied 16 points (6 g, 4 a).
  • Senior Evan Solley has recorded a 1.58 GAA, .766 save percentage, 105 saves and five shutouts.
 
SCOUTING THE SCARLET RAIDERS
  • Rutgers-Newark is 9-7-4 overall and 3-2-4 in conference play, falling during the quarterfinal round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament.
  • The Scarlet Raiders are led offensively by first-team all-league sophomore forward Erick Cortes with 12 goals and 26 points.
  • Freshman midfielder Edgar Silva, an honorable-mention all-conference pick, has collected 11 points (4 g, 3 a). Senior defender Bryan Rodriguez, a second-team all-NJAC honoree, has one assist.
  • Honorable-mention all-conference senior goalkeeper Pedro Flores has compiled a 1.34 GAA, .735 save percentage, 61 saves and five shutouts.
  • Earlier this season, WP suffered a 2-0 home loss against Rutgers-Newark (Oct. 5).
 
SCOUTING THE DEVILS
  • FDU-Florham is 12-7-1 overall and 2-5 in the MAC Freedom.
  • Senior forward Drilon Toska leads the Devils with 17 goals and 37 points.
  • Sophomore midfielder Christian Adame has collected nine goals, and senior midfielder/defender Irfan Kermalli owns 15 points (6 g, 3 a).
  • Freshman Victor Ciach has posted a 1.72 GAA, .730 save percentage and 46 saves while splitting time in goal. Graduate student Anthony Petrucci has recorded a 0.82 GAA, .822 save percentage, 37 saves and five shutouts.
  • Earlier this season the Pioneers dropped a 3-2 decision at FDU-Florham (Oct. 9).
