Volleyball Sees Win Streak End with Split at Wentworth Tri-Match

Pioneers Defeat Host Leopards Before Losing to Lasell

BOSTON, MASS. – The William Paterson volleyball team (11-6) ran its win streak to eight matches with a 3-1 victory against host Wentworth (10-7) before dropping a 3-1 decision to Lasell (13-3) Oct. 5.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers took control of the first set with a 4-0 burst that handed them a 20-12 edge, and William Paterson went on to win by a 25-16 score.
  • The two teams traded the lead throughout the second, but WP ended up with a 25-23 win.
  • After Wentworth took the third set, 25-17, the Pioneers jumped out to 8-2 fourth-set advantage en route to a 25-12 triumph.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student outside hitter/right side Hope Arce-Reed (New Carrollton, Md./College Park Academy) led WP with 17 kills.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) contributed 13 kills, 16 digs and five service aces for her 20th career double-double.
  • Sophomore setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) added nine digs to her 33 assists and five aces.
  • Senior libero Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) finished with 21 digs, seven assists and three aces.
  • Sophomore middle hitter Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) posted 11 kills and five block assists.
 
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers were within three at 15-12 midway through the first set, but the Lasers reeled off the next six points on their way to a 25-16 win.
  • WP started the second with an 11-5 burst and finished the set by scoring five of the last seven points, seizing a 25-17 victory.
  • When the Pioneers scored three unanswered points to get back within five (21-16), Lasell finished the set with three kills and an ace for a 25-16 decision.
  • The two sides battled throughout a tight fourth set until a 4-0 Laser burst gave them a 22-17 advantage, and Lasell ended the match with an eventual 25-19 triumph.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller collected 12 kills and 10 digs.
  • Glenn matched her season best with 12 kills.
  • Houpt dished 18 assists and posted 15 digs.
  • Senior defensive specialist Ciara Feliz (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) added a season-best 12 digs.
