HOBOKEN, N.J. - The William Paterson volleyball team (12-9, 3-1 NJAC) dropped a pair of non-conference matches to Salisbury and Stevens Oct. 19. The Pioneers fell 3-1 to Salisbury (19-2, 1-0 CAC) before being bested 3-1 by host Stevens (16-6, 3-1 MAC Freedom).
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers pulled within three (22-19) late in the first set after a kill by graduate student Hope Arce-Reed (New Carrollton, Md./College Park Academy) and an attack error by the Seagulls. However, Salisbury scored three unanswered points to earn the 25-19 victory.
- William Paterson outscored the Seagulls 5-2 to even the score at 20-20 in the second set and the two sides began to go back and forth before a service ace from junior Abigail Hayth (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) clinched the 27-25 set victory.
- Salisbury owned a six-point lead (22-16) before capturing the 25-18 win in set three.
- The Seagulls led by seven (18-11) in the fourth set before a 6-1 run brought the Pioneers within two points (18-16). Salisbury prevented any further damage and claimed the 25-20 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) recorded a double-double after totaling 14 kills and 18 digs.
- Sophomore Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) finished with 13 kills.
- Hope Arce-Reed (New Carrollton, Md./College Park Academy) logged nine kills.
- Sophomore Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) handed out 37 assists to pair with 15 digs.
- Senior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) tallied 23 digs.
- Senior Ciara Feliz (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) notched 10 digs.

MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- William Paterson held a one-point edge (8-7) in the opening set until the Ducks erupted for a 13-3 run to take a nine-point advantage. Stevens continued to build off the momentum and secured the 25-16 victory.
- The two sides were even at 20-20 in the second set before beginning to trade points until Stevens locked in the 26-24 win.
- Back-to-back kills by sophomore Laura Gruener (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Glenn put the Pioneers ahead, 23-21, late in the third set. The Ducks pulled within one (24-23) but a kill by freshman Mikayda Aldrich gave WP the 25-23 win.
- The Ducks outscored the Pioneers 25-5 in the fourth set.

- Miller posted a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs.
- Arce-Reed and Glenn logged eight kills apiece.
- Molina recorded 26 digs.
- Houpt dished out 37 assists.
