Volleyball Earns 3-1 Home Win Over Stockton

WAYNE, N.J. – For the first time in 30 years, the William Paterson volleyball team (12-7, 3-1 NJAC) took down Stockton (13-5, 3-2 NJAC) after earning a 3-1 victory Oct. 15 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Ospreys jumped out to a 17-10 advantage in the opening set before securing the 25-17 win.
  • William Paterson trailed by one (11-10) in the second set before a kill by graduate student Hope Arce-Reed (New Carrollton, Md./College Park Academy) sparked a 9-1 run. Stockton pulled within two (23-21) with a late surge, but the Pioneers held on for the 25-21 victory.
  • In the third set, the Pioneers led by one (13-12) and outscored the Ospreys 12-4 the rest of the way to capture the 25-16 win.
  • The two sides battled back-and-forth in the fourth set and Stockton held a 24-23 edge until Arce-Reed and freshman Makayda Aldrich (Robbinsdale, Minn./Brooklyn Center) combined for three straight kills to give WP the 26-24 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • William Paterson earned its first victory against Stockton since Oct. 11, 1994.
  • The Pioneers extended their home win streak to eight.
  • The eight-game home unbeaten streak is the longest for WP to start a season since 1988.
  • Arce-Reed paced the Pioneers with 16 kills.
  • Aldrich finished with nine kills and six blocks.
  • Sophomore Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) dished out a match-high 35 assists.
  • Senior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) logged a match-best 23 digs.
  • The Pioneers totaled 21 total blocks.

  • William Paterson heads to Hoboken, N.J., Saturday, Oct. 19, for a 2:00 p.m. match against Salisbury before facing host Stevens at 4:00 p.m.
