Football Falls to No. 9/12 Salisbury

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (1-4, 0-2 NJAC) fell to visiting No. 9/12 Salisbury (5-0, 2-0 NJAC), 63-0, Oct. 12.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Salisbury's quarterback racked up scoring runs of seven yards (7-0, 13:30, first), three yards (14-0, 6:51, first) and one yard (21-0, 9:49, second).
  • An 11-yard Sea Gull fumble return made it a 28-0 margin midway through the second quarter.
  • SU added five-yard (35-0, 5:25, second) and one-yard (42-0, 1:25, second) touchdown carries before halftime.
  • The Sea Gulls found the end zone three times during the second half with a four-yard run (49-0, 6:19, third), a 71-yard pass play (56-0, 10:04, fourth) and a three-yard rush (63-0, 5:11, fourth).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore quarterback Amir Stewart (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was 9-for-14 for 27 yards.
  • Junior running back Isaac Cherry (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) carried nine times for 18 yards, and senior wide receiver Nolan Epps (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) caught two passes for 10 yards.
  • Sophomore linebacker Nyamah Kolliegbo (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) paced the Pioneers with a career-best 10 tackles (six solo), and junior defensive back James Nevels (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) added a fumble recovery to his eight solo stops.

  • William Paterson plays the second of two consecutive home games Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1:00 p.m. against Ursinus.
