Football Stymied in Second Half by Ursinus

Trailing by Touchdown at Halftime, Pioneers Drop 49-7 Decision to Bears

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (1-5) was within a score at halftime, but Ursinus (6-0) was able to pull away during the third quarter for a 49-7 football decision Oct. 19 at Wightman Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A 40-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive and an 11-yard TD through the air made it a 14-0 Ursinus lead with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter.
  • The Pioneers used a stop on fourth-and-10 to get the ball back near their own 30-yard line, and three plays later sophomore quarterback Amir Stewart (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) connected on a short pass to junior Kyree Hinton (Somerville, N.J./Somerville), who turned it into a 65-yard touchdown. Sophomore Robert Crehan (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) kicked the PAT and the Pioneers trailed 14-7 with 8:07 remaining in the first half.
  • The Bears seized control during the third quarter with touchdowns of 16 yards (rush, 21-7, 12:13), 20 yards (pass, 28-7, 11:04), 31 yards (rush, 35-7, 7:51) and two yards (rush, 42-7, 1:57).
  • A one-yard pass play finished the scoring for the Bears with 6:34 to play in the fourth quarter.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Stewart was 10-for-21 for 107 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
  • Hinton caught four passes for 93 yards and a score.
