Men's Basketball Drops Conference Game at TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (6-8, 1-6 NJAC) fell 87-69 at The College of New Jersey (11-3, 5-2 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Jan. 6.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) connected on a jumper with 15:30 on the clock in the first half to give the Pioneers the 12-10 edge.
  • The William Paterson lead did not hold for long as the Lions outscored the Pioneers, 30-17, over the final 15 minutes of the opening stanza to take an 11-point advantage (40-29) into halftime.
  • The Pioneers trimmed the TCNJ lead to three (42-39) with 17:13 remaining in the game after starting the second half on a 10-2 run.
  • William Paterson kept the deficit within single digits until the 10:33 mark when TCNJ went ahead by 10 (58-48) following a 10-4 run.
  • The Lions continued to build on their advantage and went on to earn the home conference win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) paced the Pioneers offensively with 17 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
  • Junior Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) logged a 16-point outing with a team-high three assists.
  • Wells recorded his first collegiate double-double after scoring 15 points and reeling in 10 boards.

  • The Pioneers will take on Ramapo in a road conference game Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
