CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (10-3, 1-1 NJAC) picked up its first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory of the season after besting Rutgers-Camden (7-6, 1-1 NJAC), 3-1, Sept. 26.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers trailed by one (11-9) in the opening set before a 7-1 run gave William Paterson a four-point edge. WP maintained its slim advantage and went on to secure the 25-21 set win.
- WP was off to a 9-4 start in the second set, but the Scarlet Raptors put up four unanswered points to pull within one. The Pioneers responded with a 10-2 run that built the lead to nine (19-10) and used the momentum to capture the set win, 25-18.
- Rutgers-Camden quickly jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the third set. Despite a 4-1 Pioneer run to trim the deficit to two (11-9), the Scarlet Raptors cruised the rest of the way en route to the 25-15 set victory.
- It was a back-and-forth fourth set and Rutgers-Camden had match point (24-23) when the Pioneers got back-to-back kills from freshmen Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) to grab a 25-24 advantage. The two sides later found themselves even at 26 apiece before an attacking error by the Scarlet Raptors and a service ace by freshman Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) sealed the 28-26 set and match win for the Pioneers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Pioneers earned their first win over Rutgers-Camden since the 2018 campaign.
- Miller logged her fourth consecutive double-double after posting a career-high 19 kills to pair with 12 digs.
- Zabloudil recorded 18 kills.
- Freshman Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) matched her career-high kill output with 10.
- Houpt dished out a career-high 50 assists to go along with 10 digs for her second collegiate double-double.
- Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) notched a team-best 24 digs.
- Freshman Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) had five total blocks and six kills.
- Junior Ciara Feliz (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) capped her night with 15 digs.
