Volleyball Caps Weekend with Pair of 3-0 Victories

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (3-0) picked up a pair of 3-0 shutout victories over Pitt-Bradford (0-3) and Elmira (1-2) Sept. 2 at Elmira College.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP reeled off set victories of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-16 to put away Pitt-Bradford to begin the day.
 
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson opened the first set with a commanding lead and never looked back, cruising to a 25-9 win.
  • Both sides traded late runs in the second set as the Pioneers led 20-13 following a 7-3 spurt, and Elmira countered with a 9-3 surge to pull within one (23-22). However, a kill by freshman Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and an Elmira service error decided the set in favor of WP.
  • In the third set, the Pioneers led 12-11 before a 13-4 WP run secured the set and match victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) dished out 26 assists to go along with six aces and five digs.
  • Miller and fellow freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) combined for 18 kills after posting nine apiece. Miller added five digs to her stat line, while Zabloudil contributed five aces.
  • Freshman Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) finished with six kills on eight attacks for a .750 attack percentage.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) recorded a team-best seven digs.
  • The Pioneers are 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 2018.
