Volleyball Bested by Manhattanville, 3-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (3-1) was defeated, 3-0, by Manhattanville (2-2) in a road non-conference tilt Sept. 7.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing 24-21, in the opening set, the Pioneers went on a 4-0 run to grab a one-point advantage. However, the Valiants responded with three consecutive points to earn the win.
  • Manhattanville led 23-20 in the second set before freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) tallied a kill and junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) recorded an ace to pull WP within one. Both sides traded a point before the Valiants secured the 25-23 victory.
  • The Pioneers had a late charge in them during the third set and pulled within two (24-22) following a 3-1 spurt, but that would be as close as they would get as Manhattanville was able to close out the set and capture the 3-0 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) led the Pioneers with eight kills while holding a .429 attack percentage.
  • Graduate student Rose Vail (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) chipped in with seven kills and seven digs.
  • Freshman setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) recorded 28 assists.
  • Freshman Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) logged a team-best 18 digs.
  • Molina tallied 13 digs.
  • Freshman Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) had eight blocks.
  • Sophomore Abigail Hayth (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) recorded four aces.
  • All three sets were decided by three points or less.
