Volleyball Sweeps Vassar and Maritime in Weekend Tri-Match

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (8-1) secured a pair of 3-0 victories on the road against Vassar (4-5) and SUNY Maritime (3-3) Sept. 16.

MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers led 16-13 in the opening set before a kill by freshman Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) sparked a 6-1 WP run. Vassar cut the deficit to four (21-17), but the Pioneers scored four unanswered points to secure the win.
  • Vassar was holding a slim 8-7 edge in the second set when WP erupted on a 9-2 run. A 6-2 Pioneer run ensued and gave WP a large enough lead before it went on to capture the 25-16 set win.
  • WP took an early 4-1 lead in the third set and never looked back en route to claiming a 25-11 victory.
 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) recorded a team-high 10 kills for her third double-digit kill performance of the season.
  • The rookie added six aces and seven digs to her stat line.
  • Freshman Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) logged nine kills and nine digs.
  • Freshman Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) dished out a match-high 24 assists.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) had a match-best 14 digs.

MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP jumped out to a 16-3 advantage in the first set. The two sides traded points before the Pioneers closed out the set on an 8-2 run to earn the win.
  • The Pioneers led 13-8 in the second set before going on a 12-3 run to secure the set victory.
  • WP and Maritime were even at 11-11, but the Pioneers got into an offensive rhythm and went on a 14-3 run to close out the third set and secure the match win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomores Abigail Hayth (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) and Erica Bickart (Tucson, Ariz./Marana) tied for the team lead in kills with six apiece.
  • Sophomore Alexa Jarvis (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) totaled a team-best 12 assists, five blocks and four aces.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers return to the Sports and Recreation Center Tuesday, Sept. 19, for a 7:00 p.m. conference match against Ramapo.
