Fourth-Seeded Volleyball Treks to Top-Seeded Stockton for NJAC Tournament Semifinals

WAYNE, N.J. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson volleyball team (25-5, 5-3 NJAC) will travel to Galloway, N.J., Thursday, Nov. 9, to take on top-seeded Stockton (20-10, 8-0 NJAC) at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament.

  • Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults; $5.00 for children and seniors
  • Free tickets will be granted to all William Paterson students who attend the match with a valid WP ID courtesy of student development

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The winner of the matchup between William Paterson and Stockton will advance to championship match Saturday, Nov. 11, to square off against the winner of the matchup between second-seeded Ramapo and third-seeded Kean with the time still to be determined. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game. The NJAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
 
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are making their 19th appearance in the NJAC Tournament and are seeking their fourth tournament title (1982, 1983, 1991).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson is in the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time since 2009 after securing a 3-1 win against fifth-seeded Rowan in the quarterfinals Nov. 7 at home.
  • The win over the Profs gave WP its 25th win of the season, the most for the program since the 1988 team won 26 matches.
  • The Pioneers have won 14 of their last 15 matches and enter Thursday's matchup on a six-game win streak.
  • Freshman outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) leads WP and the NJAC in kills/set (3.63) on 348 kills.
  • She has logged double-digit kills in each of her last eight outings while logging five double-double during that stretch.
  • Freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) ranks second on the team in kills (316) and is third in the NJAC in kills/set (3.36).
  • Freshman setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) has made her mark in her rookie campaign, leading the team and conference in assists/set (10.03) and ranking second in the NJAC in assists 923.
  • Freshman Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), the program's single-season leader in block assists, averages a conference-best 1.15 blocks/set and has compiled 107 total blocks on the year.
  • Junior libero Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) is second in the conference in digs/set (4.85) while tallying a team-high 441 digs.

SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
  • Stockton wrapped up the regular season with a 20-10 overall record and an 8-0 mark in conference play to earn the top seed in the NJAC Tournament.
  • The Ospreys are 9-2 in their last 11 outings with both losses coming at home to No. 10 NYU (10/27/23) and Eastern (11/4/23).
  • Freshman Nicole Palmer paces the team in kills (302) and kills/set (3.15) while adding 57 total blocks.
  • Sophomore Regan Mendick and senior Aubrey Rentzel split the setting duties, combining for 956 assists.
  • Freshman McKenna Ritchie leads the team in digs (423) and digs/set (4.24).
 
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • William Paterson fell 3-1 (15-25, 18-25, 25-22, 28-30) to Stockton Oct. 24 in Galloway, N.J.
  • The Pioneers were one of three NJAC teams to win at least one set against the Ospreys this season.
  • Zabloudil posted a team-high 14 kills to pair with seven digs and three blocks.
  • Miller logged a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs.
  • Houpt handed out a match-best 31 assists and recorded 18 digs for a double-double.
  • Molina tallied a match-high 29 digs.
