Fourth-Seeded Volleyball Hosts Fifth-Seeded Rowan in NJAC Tournament Quarterfinals

WAYNE, N.J. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson volleyball team (24-5, 5-3 NJAC) will host fifth-seeded Rowan (9-18, 3-5 NJAC), Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament quarterfinals at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
TICKET INFORMATION
  • Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults; $5.00 for children and seniors
  • Free tickets will be granted to all William Paterson students who attend the match with a valid WP ID courtesy of student development

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The winner of the matchup between William Paterson and Rowan will advance to the semifinals Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7:00 p.m. against No. 1 Stockton in Galloway, N.J. Following the semifinals, the highest remaining seed will host the championship game Saturday, Nov. 11, at a time to be determined. The NJAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
 
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are making their 19th appearance in the NJAC Tournament and are seeking their fourth tournament title (1982, 1983, 1991).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson finished the 2023 regular season with a 24-5 overall record and 5-3 mark in NJAC play. The 24 wins are the most in a single season for the program since 2004, while the five conference victories are the most since 2009.
  • The Pioneers have won 13 of their last 14 matches and enter tournament play on a five-game win streak.
  • William Paterson went 11-1 at the Sports and Recreation Center this season, with its last loss (3-2) coming Sept. 19 against Ramapo. It marks the most home wins in a season for the Pioneers since 2013.
  • Freshman outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) paces the WP attack with 332 kills while sitting tied-first in the conference in kills/set (3.61).
  • Freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) ranks second on the team in kills (297) and is third in the NJAC in kills/set (3.30).
  • Freshman setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) has made her mark in her rookie campaign, leading the team and conference in assists/set (9.99) and ranking second in the NJAC in total assists 879.
  • Freshman Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), the program's single-season leader in block assists, averages a conference-best 1.16 blocks/set and has compiled 103 total blocks on the year.
  • Junior libero Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) is the conference leader in digs/set (4.86) while tallying a team-high 423 digs.

SCOUTING THE PROFS
  • Rowan currently owns a 9-18 overall record and 3-5 mark in the conference action.
  • The Profs still have two more matches remaining in their season as they will take on Drew and Stevens in Madison, N.J., Nov. 4. 
  • Sophomore outside hitter Jena Kaul leads the team in kills (354) and is tied-first in the conference in kills/set (3.61).
  • Junior setter Brooke Adams has handed out the most assists (913) in the conference this season and sits second in assists/set (9.32).
  • Sophomore libero Vanessa Hutchinson has posted the most digs (462) in the NJAC while ranking second in digs/set (4.71).
 
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • William Paterson dropped the first set but went on to secure a 3-1 home win over Rowan Oct. 10.
  • It was the Pioneers first victory against the Profs since Sept. 20, 2018 and the first home win against Rowan since Nov. 3, 2009.
  • Miller had a match-high 16 kills to pair with 11 digs, while Zabloudil and fellow freshman Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) finished with 15 and 10 kills, respectively.
  • Houpt dished out 48 assists while Molina recorded a match-best 24 digs.
