Volleyball Finishes 2-0 at Home Invite

Volleyball Defeats Pratt and Farmingdale, 3-1

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (12-4) secured two non-conference victories, defeating Pratt (5-8) and Farmingdale (5-10) in four sets on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers led by three (10-7) before going on an 11-1 run. WP maintained its advantage to a 25-12 first-set victory.
  • Down by two (8-6) freshman Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) sparked a five-point run for the Pioneers to gain the lead (11-8). WP stayed ahead to collect the 25-16 second-set win.
  • The Cannoneers jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set. Despite a 5-1 run to tie up the score, Pratt held the advantage en route to a 25-21 set victory.
  • A back-and-forth fourth set, tied at 22, would end with two big kills by freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) and a Pratt attack error to seal the 25-22 set and match win for the Pioneers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller posted a game-high 18 kills while adding eight digs.
  • Freshman Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) recorded game-highs with 33 assists and four service aces.
  • Sophomore Kiyarah Hicks (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) notched a team-high 13 digs, tying her career high.
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Up by three (8-5), back-to-back kills by freshmen Miller and Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) sparked a 17-3 run to secure WP's 25-8 first-set win.
  • Farmingdale held a one-point advantage over the Pioneers (17-16) until Houpt set up graduate student Rose Vail (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) for a successful attack, launching a 9-2 run to notch a 25-19 second-set victory.
  • WP held a slim advantage (18-17) until the Rams posted an 8-1 run to win the third set, 25-19.
  • Down 13-8, the Pioneers bounced back with a 17-4 run to earn the fourth and match set. Miller led the run with four kills and an ace.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller recorded a double-double performance with 15 kills and 11 digs.
  • Houpt posted a team-high 26 assists and assisted on two blocks.
  • Freshman Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) earned a game-high six blocks.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) secured 22 digs and two service aces.
