Volleyball Rallies to Top Rowan, 3-1

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (14-4, 2-2 NJAC) edged Rowan (5-12, 2-3 NJAC), 3-1 at the Sports and Recreation Center on Tuesday, October 10. The last time the Pioneers defeated the Profs was back in 2018 in Glassboro.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan led 22-18 in the first set when WP took a timeout to regroup. The Pioneers came out of the timeout with a huge kill by freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) and a Prof attack error to pull within two. The two teams traded a point, including another kill by Zabloudil, before the Profs grabbed the 25-21 victory.
  • WP came out hot in the second set with a 6-0 run that included two kills from Zabloudil and two service aces from freshman setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley). The Profs crawled back to tie at 12. Rowan stayed within three of the Pioneers but could not grab a lead, falling 26-24.
  • Trailing 24-21 in the third set, freshman Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) posted two kills and a service ace to cut the lead to one and Rowan called a timeout. The timeout followed with two Prof attack errors to give WP a one-point advantage (25-24). Freshman Kristian Glenn (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) ended the set with a kill for a 26-24 Pioneer win.
  • The fourth set was tight with the Pioneers behind by two (8-6). A kill by Houpt sparked a 5-0 run to grab a three-point advantage. WP stayed ahead by six or more points the rest of the way, en route to a 25-17 set and match victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller led the way with her eighth double-double performance of the season. She recorded 16 kills and 11 digs while adding three aces. This was her ninth consecutive double-digit kill game.
  • Houpt posted a game-high 48 assists with eight digs and three aces.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) led both teams with 24 digs and two aces.
  • Freshman Sofia Zablackis (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) secured a total six blocks and graduate student Rose Vail (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) added a season-high four blocks.
  • Zabloudil finished with 15 kills, five digs and four block assists. Glenn recorded ten kills, a block solo and two block assists.
