Volleyball Presses Kean But Falls Short, 3-0

UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (11-4, 1-2 NJAC) pressed host Kean (10-6, 4-0 NJAC) throughout, but the Cougars came away with a 3-0 win Oct. 3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing 22-17 in the first, the Pioneers used four kills, a ball handling error and an ace to take a 23-22 lead. Later tied at 26-26, the Cougars put away two kills to take the first set by a 28-26 score.
  • Knotted at 4-4 in the second set, Kean used a 9-2 run to build a 13-6 lead on its way to a 25-16 victory.
  • WP trailed by one (11-12) midway through the third set, but Kean was able to fend off the challenge for a closing 25-19 decision.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman outside hitter Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) had her sixth consecutive double-digit kills match with 13, adding 13 digs.
  • Freshman outside hitter Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) posted 10 kills, and junior libero Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) collected 13 digs.
  • Freshman setter Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) contributed 27 assists.

  • William Paterson will start a six-match homestand Saturday, Oct. 7, facing Pratt at 11:00 a.m. and Farmingdale State at 3:00 p.m.
