Volleyball Blanks DeSales in Three Sets

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (15-4, 2-2 NJAC) blanked DeSales (8-12, 3-1 MAC Freedom), 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers led the first set the entire way to a 25-11 victory, outscoring the Bulldogs 15-3 in kills. Freshman Cecilia Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) led the set with five kills and freshman Natalie Zabloudil (London, Ohio/London) added four kills.
  • WP opened the second set, 9-0, with four kills by Zabloudil and two service aces by freshman Abby Houpt (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley). DeSales cut the advantage to six but could not surpass the Pioneers, falling 25-11.
  • The third set was a back-and-forth one, until WP took a 19-18 lead with a successful attack by Miller. This sparked a 7-1 run to 25-19 third-set and match victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Houpt posted her third double-double performance this season, tallying 36 assists and 10 digs while adding a game-high five aces.
  • Zabloudil secured her 12th double-digit kill game this season with a game-high 13 kills, adding seven digs.
  • Miller earned her 10th consecutive double-digit kill performance with 12 kills.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) recorded a game-high 22 digs, her third consecutive double-digit dig game of the season.
  • The Pioneers outscored the Bulldogs 41-17 in kills.

  • William Paterson returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a tri-match against FDU-Florham at 11:00 a.m. and Baruch at 3:00 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center.
