Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball's Late Comeback Bid Falls Short Against TCNJ

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

WAYNE, N.J. – Despite a late comeback effort, the William Paterson men's basketball team (8-6, 2-5 NJAC) was unable to overcome a double-digit deficit and ultimately fell to The College of New Jersey (3-11, 2-5 NJAC), 65-56, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Jan. 7 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lions held a commanding 17-point advantage with 7:18 on the clock in the fourth quarter before junior Tyreek Montgomery (Neptune, N.J./Admiral Farragut) scored six straight points to spark a 16-6 William Paterson run. The Pioneers shot the ball at a 70-percent clip (7-of-10) from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers during the run to pull within seven, 57-50, with 2:36 remaining in the contest.
  • However, TCNJ was able to ice the game at the foul line and eventually secure the conference win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) scored a game-high 17 points on 7-of-14 (.500) shooting with four rebounds.
  • Montgomery made seven shots on 14 attempts as well, but for a 16-point outing to go with four boards and four steals.
  • Senior Michael Gilmore (Teaneck, N.J./Pine Forge Academy) reeled in a team-high seven rebounds.

UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers will welcome Ramapo on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for an 8:00 p.m. NJAC contest.
