Volleyball Bounces Back from Tight Five-Set Loss to Sweep St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Pioneers Split Matches at Baruch

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (5-8) bounced back from a tough five-set loss to Baruch (9-5) to sweep St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (2-6) Sept. 24.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 25-18 and 25-20 victories.
  • The Bearcats built an 18-8 third-set lead and went on to win, 25-19.
  • WP opened up a 20-15 advantage, but Baruch scored 12 of the last 17 points for a 27-25 fourth-set triumph.
  • Neither team led by more than three during the fifth set, but the Bearcats were able to score the final three points for a 17-15 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior right side/middle hitter Eliana Lamb (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) put down a match-best 15 kills.
  • Freshman outside hitter/right side Inaya Jones (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) posted 12 kills, and freshman outside hitter/libero Abigail Hayth (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) had her second double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs.
  • Junior libero Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) collected 20 digs, while freshman libero/defensive specialist Kiyarah Hicks (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) notched a season-best 13 digs.
  • Freshman setter/outside hitter Alexa Jarvis (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) added seven digs to her 28 assists.
 
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers cruised to a 3-0 sweep against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, registering 25-5, 25-21 ad 25-18 victories.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Hayth paced WP with 12 kills and six digs.
  • Senior middle hitter/outside hitter Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) added six kills and five digs.
  • Freshman setter Alyssa Roccuzzo (Garrison, N.Y./Walter Panas) added 15 assists and five digs.

  • William Paterson resumes league play Tuesday, Sept. 27, at home against Kean at 7:00 p.m.
