Men's Basketball Falls at Stockton Despite Big Second Half

GALLOWAY, N.J.- The William Paterson men's basketball team (10-10, 7-8 NJAC) fell on the road at Stockton (17-4, 12-3 NJAC), 89-81, Feb 5, despite putting up 52 points in the second half Feb. 5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A three-pointer from graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) gave WP a 17-16 lead at the 10:28 mark of the first half.
  • A late offensive run from Stockton gave them a 42-29 lead at halftime.
  • The Pioneers fought back, as Mignone converted a layup to cut the deficit to five at 61-56 with 10:46 left to play.
  • Junior forward Adryan Lopez (Garfield, N.J./Lyndhurst) hit a jumper with 2:46 remaining, cutting the score to 78-74 Stockton.
  • The Ospreys hit a step-back three-pointer as the clock shot expired to give them a seven point lead, at 88-81 with 30 seconds left to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Mignone finished with 19 points to go along with five rebounds.
  • Junior guard Jadon Cepeda (West New York, N.J./Memorial) scored 19 points and grabbed seven boards.
  • Lopez and senior guard Nick Rodriguez (Redding, Calif./Shasta) each added 11 points.
