Women's Basketball Advances to NJAC Tournament Semifinals With 63-57 Win Against Ramapo

WAYNE, N.J.- The fouth-seeded William Paterson women's basketball team (13-10, 11-7 NJAC) took care of visiting Ramapo (10-12, 9-11 NJAC) 63-57, to advance to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals Feb. 22

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ramapo held an 18-11 lead to end the first quarter.
  • A 6-0 run to start the second quarter from WP cut the deficit to two (18-16).
  • The Roadrunners took a 34-27 into halftime.
  • The Pioneer offense erupted in the third quarter, going on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 38-38 with 1:57 left in the third.
  • The game was tied up at 45-45 with 8:30 left to play.
  • WP held a 55-50 lead at the 4:03 mark.
  • The Pioneers would not trail again, while going 4-for-6 (.666) on free throws in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) led the Pioneers' with 20 points.
  • Junior forward Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) finished with 15 points and five boards.
  • Junior guard Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
