Women's Basketball Suffer NJAC Semifinals loss vs. The College of New Jersey

WAYNE, N.J.- The William Paterson women's basketball team (13-11, 11-7) fell at home 59-46, to The College of New Jersey (14-12, 8-10) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals Feb. 24

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP held a 10-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • TCNJ outscored the Pioneers 24-13 in the second quarter, capped off by a deep buzzer beating three to take a 29-23 lead at half.
  • The Lions lead grew to 14 (37-23) at the 7:31 mark of the third, until WP went on an 11-2 run, a three from junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) cut the deficit to just five at 39-34, at the end of the third.
  • TCNJ outscored WP 20-12 in the fourth to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior forward Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) led all scorers with 19 points, while grabbing 10 boards.
  • Junior guard Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) added eight points and six rebounds.
