WAYNE, N.J. – A 19-4 third-quarter run by the William Paterson women's basketball team (6-2, 3-1 NJAC) made the difference as the Pioneers bested Montclair State (3-4, 1-2 NJAC), 60-49, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Dec. 7.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers found themselves trailing by seven (24-17) with 9:18 on the clock in the third quarter before erupting on a 19-4 run. During the stretch, William Paterson shot 7-of-10 (.700) from the floor and 3-of-4 (.750) from deep while limiting the Red Hawks to just one made field goal over a stretch of 5:35.
- Montclair State pulled within five (45-40) with 6:37 remaining in the game, but the Pioneers countered with an 11-5 run to build an insurmountable lead en route to securing the conference win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Pioneers are off to their best start to a season since the 2011-12 team opened the year with 15 consecutive wins.
- William Paterson extended its win streak to three games.
- Junior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) poured in 17 points with five rebounds and four assists.
- Senior Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) logged 16 in the scoring column to pair with nine boards.
- Senior Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) recorded 13 points and reeled in seven boards to go along with four helpers.
- Freshman Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) extended her double-digit scoring streak to six games after finishing with 10 points.
- The Pioneers improved to 4-0 at the Sports and Recreation Center this season.
