Big Second Half Leads Men's Basketball to 90-82 Win at NJCU

WAYNE, N.J.- The William Paterson men's basketball team (10-7, 7-5 NJAC) used a big second half to down New Jersey City (9-10, 6-6 NJAC) 90-82 on the road on Jan. 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • New Jersey City held a 30-21 lead at the 8:36 mark of the first half.
  • A three from graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) cut the deficit, as NJCU led 38-34 with 5:07 left to play in the first half. 
  • The Gothic Knights led 46-39 at halftime.
  • The Pioneer offense erupted to begin the second half, as WP went on a 22-2 run, and took a 64-50 lead at the 13:09 mark of the second half.
  • The WP lead grew to as large as 22 points, leading 78-56 with 8:56 left to play.
  • NJCU mounted a comeback, cutting the Pioneer lead to just eight, at 85-77 with 1:28 remaining.
  • WP held strong late to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Mignone finished with 29 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior guard Nick Rodriguez (Redding, Calif./Shasta) scored a career-high 21 points and grabbing four boards.
  • Graduate student guard Brian Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) and junior forward Michael Gilmore (Teaneck, N.J./Pine Forge Academy) each added 11 points.
