Late Surge Pushes Women's Basketball to 70-67 Win vs. Ramapo

WAYNE, N.J.- The William Paterson women's basketball team (8-6, 5-3 NJAC) used a strong strong fourth quarter to secure a 70-67 comeback win against Ramapo (5-7, 2-6 NJAC) on Jan 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ramapo outscored the Pioneers' 36-29 in the first half.
  • The Roadrunners held a 44-30 lead with 6:20 left in the third, but WP eventually cut that deficit to seven, as they trailed 52-45 with 20 seconds left in the quarter.
  • Three straight three pointers from the Pioneers' cut the Ramapo lead to just one, as WP trailed 58-57 with five minuets to play.
  • A three from junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) gave WP a 60-59 lead with 3:21 left in regulation.
  • WP went 5-for-6 (.833) from the free throw line in the final two minuets, securing the home win.
  • The Pioneers' outscored Ramapo 25-13 in the fourth quarter.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior forward Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) led the Pioneers' with 20 points, while grabbing four boards.
  • Smith finished with 18 points while shooting 5-for-8 (.625) from behind the arc. 
  • Junior guard Precious Allah (Neptune, N.J./Monmouth Regional) finished with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, securing her first career double-double.
  • Freshman guard Victoria Palladino (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) also finished with a career-high 15 points and four assists.
