Women's Basketball Suffer Overtime Loss at TCNJ

EWING, N.J.- The William Paterson women's basketball team (7-6, 6-3 NJAC) suffered a 77-72 overtime loss on the road at The College of New Jersey (8-6, 5-4 NJAC) on Jan 15.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • TCNJ held a 20-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • A three pointer from freshman guard Victoria Palladino (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) cut the WP deficit to six, at 46-40 with 4:29 left in the third.
  • The Pioneers' went on a 11-5 run to start the fourth, as TCNJ held just a 57-55 lead with 4:34 remaining.
  • Junior guard Precious Allah (Neptune, N.J./Monmouth Regional) tied the game with a jumper at 61-61 with 50 seconds left in regulation.
  • The Lions converted two free throws with 10 seconds left, holding a 64-61 lead.
  • After a made layup by WP, junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) stole the ball on the next TCNJ possession, drawing a shooting foul on the opposing fast break.
  • Smith went 1-for-2 on those free throws, ending the fourth quarter tied at 64-64.
  • The Lions outscored the Pioneers' 13-8 in overtime.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior forward Qiana Vigo (Ewing, N.J./The Hill School) finished with a career and season high 25 points and grabbed eight board.
  • Allah scored 10 points and had four rebounds.
  • Smith finished with 11 points.
  • Palladino added eight points, six rebounds and five assists.
